Greetings and welcome to Jake's DTV Blog! I'm glad you came to visit. This page is designed to give you a little more information about this site and who I am.
I'm a native of Rockport, Ind. and spent several years working in a variety of jobs from selling furniture to delivering mail, but my favorite job has been and continues to be writing. I started off writing for my high school's newspaper, and later worked as a reporter for The Spencer County Journal-Democrat in Rockport and the McLean County News in Calhoun, Ky.
Jake's DTV Blog combines that love for writing with my interest in broadcasting, which I've followed all my life. I grew up watching such local shows as "The Peggy Mitchell Show" and all of our great local newscasts.
In August 2008, seeing few websites that catered to people like me who were making the digital TV transition over-the-air (without cable), I put my love of writing and my interest in TV to work, chronicling the pitfalls and pleasures of free TV.
Eventually, I decided to do a little transition with this site, as well, and turned it into a journal of what's happening in both TV and radio broadcasting in the Evansville Tri-State area, from personnel changes to new formats, new programs to ... well, anything and everything that may be of interest to you. Jake's DTV Blog also includes several features you may find of interest:
- Local TV and radio station listings
- Cable TV channel lineup links
- Weather information and links (including information on NOAA Weather Radio stations for all the counties in the Tri-State)
- Local links of interest
- Area sports schedules, especially those that are broadcast locally
- And much more!
As far as I know, this site is the only one that has all of this information in one place in the Tri-State, and in September 2009, it spawned a weekly column in the Evansville Courier and Press. The column runs each Thursday and usually explores one or more topics discussed here in greater depth.
