This page shows each county's NOAA Weather Radio station and information on how to get the most from your radio.
A weather radio is an important tool to have in your arsenal of family safety, but it works best when you know how to use it effectively. It is my hope that, after using this page, you'll be a better-informed weather radio owner.

In some cases, area counties can receive warnings from more than one transmitter; in these cases, the station which has the best signal in your home is the one you should use.Listen for weekly and monthly tests.
These tests, scheduled one day each week in the morning and evening, will help you learn whether or not your radio is properly programmed and functioning correctly. Below are each area WFO's schedules for those tests. Note that if severe weather is possible when the tests are scheduled, the test alerts will be issued on the next available day when the weather is good.
CENTRAL ILLINOIS (seen as ILX below) - Clay, Richland and Lawrence counties in Southeastern Illinois
- Each WEDNESDAY between 11 a.m. and noon CT.
PADUCAH (seen as PAH below) - All other Southeastern Illinois counties, most of Southwestern Indiana and most of Western Kentucky
- Each WEDNESDAY between 10 a.m. and noon CT (11 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET). An additional test is performed on the FIRST WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH between 6 and 7:30 p.m. CT (7 and 8:30 ET).
INDIANAPOLIS (seen as IND below) - Daviess, Knox and Martin counties in Southwestern Indiana
- Each WEDNESDAY between 11 a.m. and noon ET.
LOUISVILLE (seen as LMK below) - Dubois and Perry counties in Southwestern Indiana, Hancock and Ohio counties in Western Kentucky
- Each TUESDAY between 6 and 7 p.m. ET (5 and 6 p.m. CT), and again each WEDNESDAY between 11 a.m. and noon ET (10 and 11 a.m. CT).
Check your batteries often, especially before severe weather threatens.
In case your electricity goes out, it's important to have fresh batteries in your weather radio and extras available. A good rule of thumb which I use personally is this: When Daylight Saving Time begins in the spring and ends in the fall, replace the batteries, just as you would with your smoke alarm.
Develop a severe weather action plan with your family and practice it often!
Even a perfectly functioning weather radio is of no use to you if you don't heed its warning and find a safe shelter from the storm!
