NewWave picks another Roberts-owned station for its area customers
UPDATE, 10:30 a.m. TUESDAY: NewWave Communications has obtained another Roberts Broadcasting station ― WZRB out of Columbia, S.C. ― to replace WAZE for its customers in Southeastern Illinois and Southwestern Indiana. No word yet on why the cable company chose that one.
When WAZE-CW19 went off the air unexpectedly this past Thursday afternoon, it left not just viewers in a lurch, but cable and satellite providers as well.
One Tri-State cable company, WOW!, reports via its website that it is "working on alternative means" of delivering CW network programming for its customers.
It's not immediately clear what alternatives are being explored ― which is not too surprising, actually, because it's in WOW's interest to perhaps get a jump on its competitors ― but hopefully we'll know something on that score soon.
Meanwhile, JDTVB readers are making it abundantly clear that they would prefer to see CW programming on Local 7 WTVW. In the ongoing poll ― which remains up for your vote through noon Friday ― here's how things stack up:
- Out of 92 total votes, 69 (75%) want it on Local 7.
- 5 readers (5%) prefer 14WFIE.
- 4 readers (4%) would like it on WTSN/WYYW (Me-TV).
- 2 readers (2%) have picked WEHT Local.
- 7 readers (7%) like WEVV.
- And 5 readers (5%) said "none of the above."
I'll keep you posted.

You should email these results daily to the management at WTVW!
I like the idea that Jacob said. WTVW was hurting cuz they lost Fox last fall and the CW would be perfect at home on WTVW
I like Jacobs idea, the CW would fit perfect on WTVW
WTVW would make a great superstation for the evansville market CW would help boost it's programing and advertisement sales as well.
NewWave Communications replaced WAZE with Roberts Broadcasting's CW station WZRB-DT 47 in COLUMBIA, SC on it's cable lineup. Good job NewWave!
WTVW won't pick up The CW. They're waiting for CBS.
They'll be waiting a while - I don't see any way that can happen for at least the next few years.
Remember this, Jake? (See the last sentence)...

ibjimbo said... I agree with Ron 100%. I knew that WEHT was on RF channel 7, that's why I thought this could happen. As for WTVW, thay could go off in a completely diffrent direction, IDing as WTVW-28. CW-28 maybe?
I do, but I'm not sure that's where things will end up. It's possible, but then again, *anything* is possible.
This may be a little off the subject, but I wish RF channel 20 would have been left open for a (full power) station to serve the Evansville, Owensboro, Madisonville market.
I can't disagree with that, but I believe WTSN will eventually do much more with Channel 20 than WAZE would have. Just a hunch.
My mother just called me and said her CWAZE is back up and running now. She has Dish TV and lives in Mount Vernon, IN. I have WOW cable and the station "6" was completely gone from the channel line up last week, today the channel "6" is in the listings again! I was so excited and tried the channel only to get a black screen :( I hope we can get the station back up very soon. Vampire Diaries is starting again tomorrow night!
Christina,
Thanks for the update, but in all likelihood what you're going to get is a national feed or a neighboring station. I've not heard from WOW yet what that would be. It is encouraging that the companies are getting something to replace what was lost.
