Last season, the NEWS 25 Sports Channel began airing USI Screaming Eagles men's basketball games live from the PAC Arena. However, that won't be the case this year.
Without further explanation, NEWS 25's marketing manager, Melisse Marks, has informed me via email that the station
"will not be airing the USI games." Interestingly, that word comes despite the fact that the 2011-12 broadcast schedule remains available on NEWS 25's website.
USI athletic director Jon Mark Hall confirmed that the games will not be televised on the Sports Channel this season, and added that the athletic department is looking at other opportunities, although no formal discussions have been held with any other local stations. If they are unable to televise this season's games, Hall said, they will try again for the 2012-13 season.
There will, however, be broadcasts available for fans of the Eagles, despite the loss of the telecasts. Mt. Vernon radio station WYFX-ESPN 106.7 will, as it has in the past, air the games on radio, and Hall said there will also be live internet streams of games as well.
