JDTVB PRODUCT REVIEW: A good deal on a product that just might save your life

JDTVB PRODUCT REVIEW:
For $10 and change, this radio could
save your life, and the lives of the
ones you love.
I try to avoid endorsing products on this site, but this evening while shopping at a RadioShack on the way home from Louisville, I made a startling discovery and had to bring it home.

That discovery was the RadioShack Model 12-382 SAME Weather Radio.

Originally a $49.99 radio, it was on clearance for -- get ready -- $9.99.  At first I thought it was a misprint, but sure enough, the price was correct, and far too good to pass up.

The sale was timely, because our 10-year-old weather radio in the bedroom (also from RadioShack) has just about given up on us.  It's served us very well, but now has occasional difficulty getting test messages and alerts, and that's not good news.

Setting up this radio is super-easy, and indeed, the important stuff is done for you automatically.  Once you plug it in or install a 9-volt battery (which I recommend you do), it powers up and seeks the strongest station.  Then you set the clock, enter your location (a list of which is available here for those of you who live in the Tri-State) and ... that's it!  It's ready to go.

As with most RadioShack weather radios I've ever used (and I've bought many, for my own use and  for gifts), the 12-382 has a loud alert tone (which is adjustable), a good alarm clock (with an equally loud alarm!) and doesn't take up more than its share of space.

And at ten bucks and change after tax, it's well worth a trip to your local RadioShack store to snap up what's left.  Seriously ... at that price, this is a no-brainer.  Your life -- and the lives of those you love -- are worth that cost.

EDITOR'S NOTE:  This review was unsolicited and I was NOT paid by RadioShack to endorse this product.  I do not, have not and will not seek or accept promotional consideration for product reviews.

Which Radio Shack?

The one I stopped at was actually in the mall here in Owensboro, but they showed several in inventory at every store they checked in the Tri-State. I'd imagine the same will be true elsewhere. I wanted to be sure and ask before I wrote this!
